Two significant bridges were inaugurated on Sunday by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project.

The first is a 601-meter-long, two-lane bridge that can handle 3,200 cars per hour. It is designed to handle traffic moving eastward from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and northward toward Al Qusais and Deira.

The second bridge is likewise a 2-lane structure that spans 664 meters. Its purpose is to facilitate traffic flow by removing traffic overlap from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road as it heads south towards Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port. It can handle 3,200 cars per hour.

“Upon completion, the project will cut the distance and journey time from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Qusais and Deira by 40%, from 20 minutes to 12 minutes during peak hours,” stated Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, RTA. In addition, it will cut the travel time for drivers traveling right on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road toward Al Yalayis Street toward Jebel Ali Port by 70%, from 21 minutes to seven minutes.

Seven kilometers of road work will be completed as part of the project. Surface intersections on the service road running parallel to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road will be improved, and traffic signals, traffic systems, lamps, irrigation systems, and stormwater drainage networks will all be installed.
