Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Deputy Minister of Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Minister’s Envoy to the European Union, called for an immediate ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza.
The comments were made during Monday’s Foreign Affairs Council session, which was part of a two-day series of high-level meetings in Brussels focused on the conflict in Gaza.
The UAE joined foreign ministers from the European Union, as well as their colleagues from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as well as the Secretary General of the League of Arab States.
The discussion focused on the Middle East peace process and how to strengthen cooperation between the EU and Arab countries, with a view to finding a political solution to the conflict.
Nusseibeh has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, the unconditional release of hostages, respect for international law and a renewed commitment by Israel and a reformed Palestinian Authority in favor of the two-state solution.
Nusseibeh said the UAE aid operation was “the largest donor of bilateral humanitarian aid to Gaza. Since the start of the conflict, the UAE has delivered more than 32,000 tonnes of food, medical supplies and other essential items to alleviate the suffering of civilians. population.”
She also provided an update on the UAE’s efforts to provide medical care to victims of the fighting and ensure access to clean water. She also informed participants of the latest aid shipment from Cyprus via the sea corridor, bringing the total deliveries via this canal to 1,100 tonnes.
However, she acknowledged that such efforts cannot compensate for the lack of access to border crossings and called for these restrictions to be lifted immediately.
