The foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt said it was important to “treat seriously and positively” US President Joe Biden’s proposal to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.
They held a virtual meeting to discuss the proposal alongside US-Qatari-Egyptian mediation efforts aimed at securing the release of hostages and detainees, which would lead to a permanent ceasefire and sufficient entry of the aid in the Gaza Strip.
The ministers stressed the need to end Israeli aggression against Gaza and ensure the return of displaced people to their areas.
They also called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip and the launch of a reconstruction process with a comprehensive plan to implement the two-state solution, based on UN Security Council resolutions, and with precise deadlines and binding guarantees.
Arab foreign ministers reiterated their support for the two-state solution, with an independent and sovereign Palestinian state modeled on June 4, 1976, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
