The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced that 6,000 rest stations will be made available to delivery service workers across the UAE.
This in collaboration with government entities and private sector companies.
An interactive map of these stations will be made available to allow workers to easily locate and access them during the lunch break, which will run from June 15 to September 15, 2024.
This initiative is part of the ministry’s efforts to ensure the health and safety of delivery service workers and to provide them with a safe working environment.
The initiative is a collaboration between MoHRE; Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA); Integrated Transport Center in Abu Dhabi; UAE Economic Development Departments, delivery companies such as Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon, Careem and others. Many restaurants, shopping malls, retail stores and cloud kitchens will also offer rest areas for delivery service drivers.
In a press release, the ministry said: “Delivery services constitute a key logistics sector, unique in nature, given that its workers do not stay in one place while the lunch break is imposed and due to the nature of certain materials transported which must be delivered on time.
This pioneering approach is a continuation of the initiative launched last year where 365 rest stations were set up for delivery people, particularly during the lunch break from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The midday break requires employers to provide umbrellas and shaded areas to protect workers from direct sunlight, adequate cooling devices, sufficient cold drinking water, hydrating materials such as salts, as well as other first aid equipment and equipment on construction sites.
MoHRE receives reports of any midday break violations through its call center at 600590000, smart app and website.
