The UAE is participating in the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting, which began on Monday in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod.
Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said the UAE would work hand in hand with its BRICS partners to address global challenges in various areas.
It is the first such meeting since the United Arab Emirates and several other countries joined the group, which initially included Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Security and economic cooperation feature high on the agenda of the two-day meeting.
“It is a great privilege to represent the UAE for the first time in the BRICS. I hope that the membership of the UAE will mark an important milestone in the group’s journey and serve as an additional incentive to consolidate further bilateral relations between member states,” said Sheikh Abdallah.
He said that the UAE’s foreign policy is based on an unequivocal commitment to international law and fundamental principles, such as respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, promotion of dialogue and the resolution of crises by political and diplomatic means.
“Based on these same principles, the United Arab Emirates reiterates its call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, as well as the rapid and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need. necessary, as well as the release of all hostages and detainees,” said the UAE minister. added.
“We also support responsible collective efforts to pursue necessary reforms at the international level and improve the representation of developing and less developed countries in multilateral institutions,” he explained.
