The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention is taking additional steps to create tobacco-free workplaces and combat smoking-related risks.
It launched a comprehensive guide with instructions for managers and staff on creating a smoke-free environment, procedures for handling violations and helping employees quit smoking.
The manual, developed by the ministry’s National Tobacco Control Program, also highlights the adverse effects of smoking on individual health and the environment, as well as the benefits of quitting smoking.
The United Arab Emirates has enacted Federal Law no. 15 of 2009 on tobacco control, followed by comprehensive executive regulations governing all tobacco-related activities.
These regulations aim to prohibit smoking in enclosed public spaces and to prohibit the use of tobacco in any form in various public spaces, including government buildings, health and educational establishments and public transport, among others.
Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Deputy Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, said the Tobacco-Free Workplace Guide will be used as a key resource and tool to help government and private entities promote a workplace without use by all. tobacco products.
“This is also in line with the UAE’s commitment to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, ratified in 2005, aimed at implementing effective measures to protect against exposure to tobacco smoke in workplaces, on public transport and in public places,” he added.
