In the UAE, a total of 2,890 prisoners were released by the rulers of the emirates, on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.
His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has ordered the release of 481 prisoners ahead of Eid Al Adha.
In Ajman, His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, also ordered the release of 233 prisoners who demonstrated good conduct during their incarceration.
In Sharjah, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, ordered the release of 352 prisoners from the Sharjah Punitive and Correctional Institution.
Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Fujairah, ordered the release of 94 prisoners.
The announcements came after President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 1,138 prisoners ahead of Eid Al Adha, along with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the Emirates United Arabs and ruler of Dubai, freeing 686 prisoners.
The combined total stands at 2,890 prisoners released across the UAE on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.
Legal proceedings are underway to send prisoners home and the guidelines will give pardoned inmates the opportunity to start a new life and reintegrate into society.
